Political activist and engineer Jabulani Midzi has called for the suspension of competitive elections in Zimbabwe.

Midzi said Zimbabwe’s problems cannot be solved by electoral votes but through a Government of National Unity.

He said Nelson Chamisa and Emmerson Mnangagwa should overcome their egos and put the people of Zimbabwe first.

“Elections in Zimbabwe have become ‘á poisoned chalice’.As long as the opposition is characterised as an extensionof the West’s regime change agenda, competitive elections can never solve the Zimbabwe problem.”

Midzi said a serious mediated dialogue between the Ruling party and the opposition is required as a matter of urgency.

He proposed that Mnangagwa remains in office until 2028. Then Chamisa is guaranteed a presidential term from 2028 to 2033, followed by competitive elections in 2033.
