Botswana former President Ian Khama has denied charges laid against him.

Khama has been slapped with 13 charges including illegal possession of fire arms.

In an interview with SABC yesterday, Khama said It’s a story that’s been going on for three years.

The charge sheet against Khama, indicates that the alleged crime dates to 3 March 2016, two years before he handed over to Mokgweetsi Masisi who was then his deputy.

Khama said he is being targeted for speaking out about Botswana which used to once be a wonderful example of democracy in Africa

He added that Masisi is extremely intolerant, he will mobilize state resources to achieve his self interest.

Meanwhile, Masisi has alleged that Khama, with funding from South African businesswoman Bridgette Motsepe, had been planning a coup d’état against him.Â
