Violence erupts at Mugodhi church headquarters in Wedza

A number of people were left injured after violent clashes erupted at Mugodhi apostolic sect gathering in Wedza, Mashonaland East on Friday.

In a video circulating on social media, men can be seen throwing stones at a retreating rival faction, including women with babies.

Following the death of the church’s leader and founder Thadeu Mugodhi in 2019, two camps have been fighting to control the institution.

The battle has since spilled into the courts after one Tonny Sigauke claimed to be the rightful successor to Mugodhi.
