A Zimbabwean man Elvis Nyati was stoned and set alight in a mob attack in Diepsloot, north west of Johannesburg, yesterday evening.

Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed the murder of Nyati.

The wife of the deceased said a small group of people went from door to door asking for identification and when they got to their house, Nyati ran out and they chased him.

The mob accussed the couple of being in possession of guns before attacking the deceased. They tool Elvis and another man, but his brother survived.

Police said when they arrived at the scene the mob had already been dispersed. However, Elvis’ wife said she never saw police and they never talked to her after his murder.

Police say 24 undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested in a separate incident in the area.
