A veil of secrecy and general chaos has rocked GoFundMe campaigns that were meant to raise over USD2, 5 million for CCC President, Nelson Chamisa.

Gambakwe Media investigations have revealed that one of the biggest GoFundMe campaigns, for USD2, 4 Million, which was started by South Africa based Tino Mambeu, has been closed with no explanation.

Mambeu started the GoFundMe to ‘Defend the 2023 vote.’

Enquires to Mambeu on why the GoFundMe was closed were met with a stern ‘No comment’.

Tonderai Basvi, Tino Mambeu, and Juma Ulete were part of the team that successfully reached the USD120 000 target for buying Chamisa an amoured car.

However, no updates were given after the target was reached.

It is not clear what has happened to the funds or if the funds were ever released by GoFundMe.

USA based Basvi did not respond to questions from Gambakwe Media when we reached out to him.

Sources close to Chamisa said he is in the dark regarding the fundraisers as he does not deal directly with funds.

A look at the list of donors reveal that an individual, Tino Mudzekenyedzi, was the single biggest donor, splashing USD2500 on the car. GoFundMe allows the use of pseudonyms.

The rest of the big donations ion the amoured car GoFundMe came from MDC Provinces who collected funds as groups.

Previous problems

A number of previous fundraisers for Chamisa’s party have been successfully launched in the past, however, the problem has always been on reporting.

Intelligence operatives

What is more alarming, in this case, is that the team that raised funds was made up of both CCC members and non members.

When questioned by Gambakwe Media in December 2021, the team members became defensive and accused Gambakwe Media of being a ZANU-PF mouthpiece.

At the time, Basvi denied accusations that he was a Zimbabwe intelligence operative.

In 2021, UK based Zimeye founder, Simba Chikanza, questioned why Chamisa was allowing well known intelligence operatives to raise funds on his behalf.
