The Saturday Star newspaper reports that fearful South African professionals and their families are emigrating to Mauritius after the July 2021 unrest.

The exodus peaked in October and has stabilized to the current trend where three times more SA professionals are leaving the country for Mauritius per month than usual.

The newspaper said the hardest hit province is KZN, where professionals are even relocating to Cape Town and Gauteng provinces.

The statistics provided by various immigration related agents are as follows:

Chas Everitt – South Africans are relocating to Mauritius, Portugal, Malta, Madeira and Cyprus.

Migration Network – Australia and New Zealand only recently opened their borders and the company expects to assist up to 40 families to relocate a month.

Sable International – The company has standing orders for South African  professionals in Healthcare, IT, Engineering, Construction and education in countries like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada Portugal and the USA.

Biddulphs international – Nearly three containers are going out for every one coming in. The UK remains the most popular destination. The company is helping three times more people to move to Mauritius than in the recent past.

Mauritius bound emigrants normally get residence on the island through buying property.

Animal travel services – Families are also leaving with their pets.
