BCC engineering services director Simela Dube dies

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) Director of  Services Mr Simela Dube died at Mater Dei Hospital yesterday following an undisclosed illness.

He was 56.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni confirmed Eng Dube’s death, saying they had lost a dedicated and innovative worker, who spearheaded several projects in the city.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of our director of engineering services (Eng Dube). It came as a shock because we never saw it coming given that he never got bed-ridden,” he said.

Eng Dube began his career as a student engineer under the BCC bursary scheme between 1984 and 1987 before his appointment as a junior engineer in October 1988.

He rose through the ranks to the position of construction engineer, mainly involved in construction and storm water drainage systems.
