ZANU PF claims it is overwhelmed by MDC Alliance officials who are defecting to the ruling party in large numbers with more than 800 people having joined the party from MDC over weekend.

Briefing journalists in Harare this Monday, ZANU-PF Acting Spokesperson Dr Mike Bimha said contrary to some reports, the party continues to attract new and old members.

“Contrary to the claims by the opposition parties and overzealous political commentators that Zanu PF is lethargic and incapable of attracting new members, the party is receiving overwhelming inquiries from many people that wish to join the party.

Bimha said that they have welcomed more than 800 people who have defected to Zanu PF in areas like Mutare, Gokwe and Marondera this past weekend alone.

“Over the weekend, a number of people defected to the revolutionary party due to its sound policies, which are meant to uplift the general populace with 400 members from Manicaland Province, 400 from Midlands and 200 members from Marondera joined the party,” he said.

Dr Bimha added that the ruling party’s developmental and progressive policies are too good to resist.

“The bottom line is that it is now clear to most people that Zanu PF is determined to achieve its developmental goals through its positive, progressive and inclusive policies,” added Bimha.
