The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) led by Julius Selo Malema says it will protest if Apartheid President F.W. De Clerk is given a state assisted funeral.

In a statement widely circulating on social media, the party said De Clerk holds no legitimate claims to any title or honour of having led the Republic of South Africa.

“He was a President of an undemocratic and racist society, which elected him as a minority,” the party said.

“It is for this very reason that the EFF calls for De Clerk not to be given a State Funeral of any category, as he lost the right to be honoured the day that the regime he led collapsed in 1994,” added the party.

De Clerk succumbed to cancer today.

Hundreds of South Africans have poured tribute following his untimely passing with some celebrating his death.
