The vice President of MDC Alliance, Tendai Biti faked his abduction.

The MDC Alliance allayed fears that the party’s co-vice president Tendai Biti was abducted from his home on Monday.

The party suspected that Biti had been abducted after social media reports claimed that unknown gunmen attacked and kidnapped Biti from his home in Harare last night.

Reports claimed that loud gunshots were heard around 11 PM at Biti’s house as five armed men suspected to be state security agents assaulted and dragged Biti into an unidentified white ISUZU twin cab which then drove off at a very high speed.

However, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed that no case of abduction was reported by the opposition party or by the family of Biti.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe has warned officials about faking abductions.

“Government notes with concern the growing tendency to peddle false allegations of human rights abuses designed to soil the image of the country and to solicit undersized international sympathy,” said Kazembe Kazembe in a statement.

“The latest example being the fake news, circulated on 08 November 2021 about the alleged abduction of MDC-A Vice leader, Tendai Biti, by 5 armed men. The falsehood went viral, with government being falsely accused of orchestrating forced disappearances and abduction of political opponents to silence the opposition, ” he added.
