Muvhango actors have revealed that they are still waiting to find out if they have jobs as they’ve been home for three months without salaries.
According to multiple sources, the service provider, SABC (South African Broadcasting Commission) has yet to renew the soapies contract.
The sources also revealed that the Word-of-Mouth sent the actors letters stating that they’ll be contacted once the contract between the soapie and the SABC has been finalised.
The creator of the show, Duma ka Ndlovu told the People’s Paper that they’re still waiting for the SABC to confirm the renewal of the new contract.
“We are waiting for the SABC to issue us with a contract. It is busy working on the contract, and we don’t know the finer details.”
SABC’s group executive for corporate affairs and marketing, Gugu Ntuli, said the cumulative value of the production has increased due to Muvhango’s lifespan.
The cast and crew admit that this is not the first time that the SABC has delayed contracts but that it’s never taken this long.
“We are left in the dark, not knowing if we will be called back or not.”
“Every year in August and September, we take a break. But a new season usually starts in October. This year, we are still not back at work.”
