The United Nations in Zimbabwe has finally broken its silence following the death of a 14-year-old girl, Memory Machaya.

Memory Machaya from Johane Marange church died while giving birth earlier this month.

Thousands reacted angrily to the untimely passing of a 14 year old child, blaming the church for child marriages.

The United Nations in Zimbabwe has also joined thousands in condemning child marriages.

“Sadly, disturbing reports of the sexual violation of under-aged girls, including early forced child marriages continue to surface and indeed this is another sad case. A situation where one out of three girls in Zimbabwe will be married before the age of 18 years is also not acceptable,” said UN in a statement.

The United Nations in Zimbabwe welcomed the government’s decision to deploy some police officers to investigate the issue.
