National Heroine, Cde Jane Lungile Ngwenya popularly known as Cde NaBigboy will be laid to rest today at the National Heroes Acre.

His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be presiding over the ceremony.

Ngwenya was born in 1935 and she died at the age of 86.

The veteran was born in Buhera, Manicaland and moved to Bulawayo where she became one of the first women to join nationalist politics which then dominated by men, leading to her involvement in the formation of the National Democratic Party and later ZAPU.

Ngwenya’s activism saw her in the early 1960s arrested by the colonial regime and serving time at Grey Street Prison, now Bulawayo Prison.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited the war veteran few months ago to check on her.
