New Johannesburg mayor Jolidee Matongo has been officially Sworn in.

Matongo says he expects his administration to pull its weight in serving Johannesburg residents.

Jolidee Matongo retained eight of the 10 members of the mayoral committee (MMC) appointed by his predecessor Geoff Makhubo

Matongo replaced Geoff Makhubo who succumbed to a Covid-19 related illness at the age of 53.

Matongo was elected yesterday after more than 100 members of Parliament voted him in.

In an interview with South Africa’s news Channel, eNCA, Matongo said he is under pressure to win the hearts of the residents of Johannesburg.

He further said he is ready to continue the good work left by the late mayor Geoff Makhubo.
