The president of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe church, Reverend Amon Dubie Madawo has accused pastors aligned to the Reverend Cossam Chiangwa faction of looting assets and property from the church.

Reverend Madawo said that the church is carrying out a thorough audit to establish what exactly the looters took before deciding on how to recover all the church’s assets.

This comes after a leadership wrangle which started in 2018 was finally settled by the Supreme Court of Zimbabwe. Past President of the AFM in Zimbabwe Reverend Aspher Madziyire and his deputy Reverend Cossam Chiangwa were involved in litigation after falling out over proposed amendments to the church constitution.

Following their defeat at the Supreme Court, the Chiangwa faction launched its own splinter church called the AFM Of Zimbabwe in contrast to the existing AFM In Zimbabwe.

The AFM Of Zimbabwe church has already organised new venues and locations for its services after being barred from using AFM In Zimbabwe assets.
According to Reverend Madawo, some of the pastors who defected to the AFM OF Zimbabwe church looted assets and properties from the AFM In Zimbabwe church.

Madawo also accused some of the pastors of Reverend Cossum Chiangwa’s AFM Of Africa church of defying the court order issued by the Supreme Court.

“Some are still resisting the new order but we are calling upon worshipers to attend church without fear because the law has spoken. In Rusape there is a Pastor Mukaro who is very adamant and is demanding an eviction order for him to move off from the church and he seems to be getting an ear from the law enforcement agencies,”
