Birchenough Bridge which is located 62 km from Chipinge in the Manicaland province of Zimbabwe, linking Chipinge with Buhera may collapse anytime

Authorities have effected weight restrictions at the bridge as assessment of the structure revealed that it could collapse if weight restrictions were not enforced.

According to multiple reports there are cracks on both ends of the bridge’s tarmac entry points while structure shakes each time heavy vehicles drive past.

The iconic bridge which was constructed by whites in April 1934 and completed at the end of 1935.

In 2018, the Emerged Railways Properties introduced a toll free for all vehicles crossing the bridge as a means of raising funds for the maintenance of the historic structure.
