The first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa officially opened the first ever Female open prison earlier today.
The open prison is the first of it’s kind in Sub-saharan Africa and will offer a conducive environment to female inmates to carry several income projects as they undergo rehabilitation.
The inmates will also have access to Wifi, Television and will be studying as they prepare for life after prison.
They will be staying in well furnished houses.
At the core is a kitchen hut whose utensils, decoration and other traditional stuff in it were donated by the first lady.
Earlier this year, the first lady revealed that Zimbabwe was planning to open its first ever female open prison in Marondera.
Zimbabwe had only Connemara Open Prison got men just outside Gweru.
