South Africa was plunged into a crisis last night after ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule, wrote a letter suspending President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The letter was confirmed as genuine by ANC Spokesman, Pule Mabe.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Mabe said the ANC National Executive Committee will meet this weekend to deliberate on the latest developments.

Mabe also confirmed that Magashule was earlier in the day suspended through a letter written by the ANC Deputy Secretary General.

He said one of the actions of the NEC meeting this weekend will be to set up an appeals body for those members who would have been asked to step aside but are not happy with the decision.

Mabe said although President Cyril Ramaphosa has appeared before the ANC integrity committee, he has no corruption case before any court in South Africa, and therefore is not impacted by the step aside resolution.
