Zambia’s first President and Icon Kenneth Kaunda celebrated his 97th birthday yesterday.

Edgar Lungu, Zambia’s current president visited Dr Kenneth Kaunda, to help him celebrate his day.

Mr Lungu said he appreciated the liberation icon’s “immense contribution” to Zambia.

“Sir, we thank God for everyday of your life”, he said as he led his delegation into singing a birthday song.

“Dr Kaunda is not an ordinary person but a true definition of a pan-Africanist, a true blessing to mankind,” Mr Lungu later posted on his Facebook account.

Kaunda has been described as one of the few liberators who led the struggle against colonial rule and also ensured the liberation of the last vestiges of colonial rule in Southern Africa.
