Pastor Joshua Maponga, a controversial Adventist pastor active in the Southern African-Indian Ocean Division of the denomination says he is done with christianity.

In a Facebook post, Maponga wrote:

“For my/your sanity, please do not refer to me as Bishop or try to impose/patronize me with myopic Christian views/rules”

“As Bishop…I quit…Yes…I quit…I will find my truth!,”

Maponga further asked every Christian to unfriend him on Facebook.

“Now I politely ask Christian’s to unfriend me…and give me space to be,” wrote Maponga.

In 2020 Maponga was banned from speaking to Adventist congregations in the region.

Originally from Zimbabwe, Maponga had publicly called for the decolonization of Christianity, which he claimed depicted a white Jesus and promoted white culture.
