MDC A spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere says the revamping of the Border Gezi Youth Service Programme is useless.

Posting on twitter, Mahere said youths don’t need a military indoctrination camp to lead better lives.

She said people need a vibrant economy that allows them to be successful in terms of education, businesses and sports.

“Young people need an economy that allows them to thrive, an education system that fosters creativity, tech hubs, art centres, modern sporting facilities, recreational facilities & Govt that doesn’t declare war on aspiration”.

The government approved the re-establishment of the Border Gezi National Youth Service Training Programme after it was suspended in 2018.

The programme has been described as an important youth development initiative crucial in nurturing young people into becoming responsible and resilient citizens with a clear sense of national identity and respect for national values.
