Norton legislator, Temba Mliswa has heavily criticised the government for failing to assist spouses of national heroes.

Mliswa says the spouses of late national heroes are only assisted at the Heroes Acre for for final send offs.

The member of parliament for Norton further criticized the government for failing to assist Tongogara’s wife to get a decent farm.

Below is a thread by Mliswa.

1/ Since it’s Heroes’ month, what has Govt done to assist surviving spouses of National Heroes? Mai Tongogara is still struggling to get a decent farm and the requisite empowerment initiatives thereof. Mai Mangena, Mai Manyika, Mai Mazorodze etc to mention a few all require help.

2/ People congregate in pomp and fanfare at the Heroes Acre for final send offs, and then the follow up assistance and benefits due to the surviving families befitting the status becomes mum. Decent housing, medical aid and educational assistance for their children etc is lacking.

3/It’s time we introspect&question this hypocrisy. The welfare of surviving spouses is in a mess & yet annually we celebrate the heroes and talk about how great of a commander people like Tongogara&Mangena were yet we don’t look after their spouses; we need to be serious; it’s sad.
