Award winning independent journalist, Hopewell Chinono has heavily criticised SADC for not intervening in attacks that have claimed many lives in Mozambique.

The President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi who is also the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security released a statement on 31 May.

In his statement, Masisi expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government of Mozambique and other affected countries.

However, Chinono heavily criticised the statement that was published by the secretary on behalf of Masisi.

Chinono said SADC is insignificant to the region’s needs and is being incompetently run.

“This is so embarrassing madam @DrTaxs.

How can @SADC_News respond to such a heinous act 7 days after having FAILED to deal with the problem!

This proves that @SADC_News is now so insignificant to the region’s needs, and is being incompetently run madam.

This is disappointing,” tweeted Chinono.

Earlier this week, Masisi visited the President of Zimbabwe to discuss regional issues.

However, people are still dying and some missing in Cabo Delgado in Mozambique and SADC has not intervened.
