Emmerson Mnangagwa has sworn in new controversial Minister of Home Affairs Ambassador Frederick Shava.

Dr Shava has held various portfolios in Government since independence.

He served in Robert Mugabe’s government as the Minister of Labour, Manpower Planning and Development from 1981 to 1986 and Minister of State for Political Affairs in 1987.

While a cabinet minister in the Mugabe government, Shava was arrested, tried and convicted for corruption in the Willowgate motor scandal, a matter that he was later pardoned for by the president.

The Willowgate Scandal involved the importation and sale of motor vehicles at enormous profits to corrupt politicians and their associates. Back in the 1980s, the importation of new motor vehicles was strictly controlled by the government.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree and a Master of Philosophy degree in Parasitology from Royal Holloway College, Master of Science in Nematology from Imperial College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from at University Of Zimbabwe.
