At least two people have died due to election violence in Niger.
Addressing the media practitioners on Thursday, Niger’s Interior Minister, Alkache Alhada revealed that the violence has led to the death of 2 people and hundreds have been arrested.
“Of the demonstrations that were held, obviously there was a toll. Unfortunately there were two deaths,” said Alhada.
The government says it has arrested 468 people including certain politicians.
Meanwhile, there was also damage and destruction of public and private infrastructure. Prominent Niger journalist, Moussa Kaka got his house burnt to ashes.
The latest confirmed deaths comes after 8 electoral workers died due to a blast.
The violence erupted after the announcement of the presidential results. The provisional results showed that Bazoum was the winner then later Ousmane claimed victory.
