The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has warned traders who are rejecting $5 notes for payment for goods and services.
In a statetement released on 23 February, the governor of RBZ, John P Mangudya said the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) is investigating cases involving traders who are rejecting the $5 notes.
“Such conduct is not only counterproductive but also criminal,” said Mangudya in a statement.
The RBZ also urged those affected by this malpractice to report to the Bank, the FIU or the nearest police station.
Mangudya further assured the public that all notes issued by the bank and in circulation are still legal tender.
