Atleast 7,000 people have been displaced whereas more than 5,000 houses have been destroyed, damaged or flooded by cyclone Eloise.

According to the prelimiary report from the government, the affected areas include Buzi, Dondo, Nhamatanda and Beira city.

In Zimbabwe, heavy rains have caused flooding, mudslides and destruction of infrastructure in Manicaland, Mashonaland East and Central, Matabeleland South and Masvingo since 23 January.

Atleast three people reportedly died in Chipinge District, after they were swept away by a floodwater that destroyed aboyt 15 houses in Gumiro Village.

However, according to the meteriological department in Mozambique, these numbers could rise in the days ahead as the full extent of the damage becomea known.
