Atleast 83 people have died in the Darfur region of Sudan as the United Nations (UN) plans to end a 13-year peacekeeping mission.

According to the Darfur Bar Association via a statement, the attack came just weeks after UN peace-keepers began with drawing from the region where violence is increasing.

“Armed militias took advantange of the incident and attacked from all sides,” said the association.

Aljazeera and Africa News had reported that atleast 43 people had died due to attacks that took place on sartuday, however the death toll has risen to 83 and 160 injured according to multiple reports in Sudan.

Similar incidents have occured in Darfur since the conflict began in 2003, when the government of Omar al-Bashir armed militias to help repress a revolt.
