Zimbabwean novelist and film maker Tsitsi Dangarembga has been awarded with theĀ  2021 PEN Freedom of Expression Prize.

The prize given to the novelist also recognises Dangarembga as an activist.

Dangarembga’s debut novel, Nervous Conditions, was the first to be published in English by a Black woman from Zimbabwe.

She was named by the BBC in 2018 as one of the top 100 books that have shaped the world.
