South African Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says more soldiers and police officers have been deployed at the Beitbridge border post to enforce security and minimise traffic congestion.

This comes after the Beitbridge border post has been affected with a challenge of traffic congestion of vehicles crossing to Zimbabwe which has reached Musina about 14km away from the border.

He added that security officers have been advised not to allow many trucks at the same time to pass through to Musina town as the town is very small and can easily get congested.

Moreover the minister said truck drivers are not blamed for the traffic congestion but it is the effects of doing administration on the road instead of doing it in the holding area where they are supposed to be done.

Motsoaledi further added that it is not efficient for truck drivers to be tested at the border post as it results to more congestion.

“15 minutes for a thousand trucks it’s very long, everybody who is there has to wait for 15 minutes”, he added
