Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been arrested for bribing chief witness in his case in which he is on bail.

Secretary for Information Nick Mangwana announced the news on his twitter page.

“Harare Mayor@JMafume has been arrested for trying to bribe the chief witness in the case for which he is on bail”.

Mafume replaced former Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba who was arrested on allegations involving land scams and abuse of office as a public officer.

Mafume was arrested in November and released on $ZW30,000 bail on 8 December by a High Court judge.

Allegations of corruption emerged in March this year that Mafume had allocated two houses to his sister and his law firm’s secretary, each worth ZW$219,938 in Westlea.
