A second dangerous Zimbabwean prisoner has inexplicably escaped from a maximum security prison in Pretoria.

Zimbabwean, Johannes Chauke escaped from Kgosi Mampuru prison on Wednesday morning,  despite the prison being the most secure, with layers of cell bars, razor fences, small windows, high walls and multiple perimeter security features.

Chauke is now the second Zimbabwean to escape from the prison after awaiting trial prisoner, Amos Chikwange escaped in May.

Both Chikwange and Chauke are ruthless armed robbers, with Chauke already serving 20 years after being found guilty.

Chauke escaped with Mozambican, Zachariah Muyambo. Police say they have launched a manhunt. However, the two are likely to have already skipped the border.

On the other hand, Chikwange escaped with South Africans,  Morris Tyavana, Medicine Girenzi and Sam Hlungwane, In May and the four were never found.

The prison was previous called Pretoria Central Prison and was renamed in 2013 by former President,  Jacob Zuma to Kgosi Mampuru Prison.

The first person to escape from the prison was Annanias Mathe, who escaped in 2006 while serving multiple terms for over 40 rapes.
