South Africa Police sources report that five cash in transit robbers were shot dead in Kempton Park after they attacked a VIP Protection escort car which was accompanying cash from a taxi association on 8 December.

Three guards were killed during that attack.

The VIP Protection vehicle was attacked at the corner of Monument & Dann Rd.

Three of suspects were shot and killed on Beech Str following a high speed chase with police while two of the suspects were shot and killed at the scene of the robbery.

Netcare 911 reported that they responded to reports of a shooting on Van Riebeeck Street.

Reports indicate that three adult males from a security bakkie and two adult males from a car had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in what was alleged to be an armed robbery and subsequent shootout will law enforcement.

Medics assessed all five patients from two different locations and found that they had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson WO Grant Giblin confirmed that two suspects were shot dead and one transported to hospital in Northmead at around 4pm today after a chase ensued from the scene of a crime in Kempton Park.

Giblin said a protection services vehicle was shot at by three men in a black VW Polo near the corner of Dann and Great North roads and the BFS officers gave chase from Monument Road.

A shootout took place down Great North Road involving BFS, Kempton SAPS, the EMPD and suspects in the Polo until the vehicle came to a standstill on the corner of Beech and Kanna streets, Northmead.

“The two suspects shot dead and the one transported to hospital happened in Benoni,” he said.

Social media posts stated that a C-class Mercedes was also used by the suspects being sought in connection with the shooting.

Weapons that were recovered include AK47s.
