Khaliphani Phugeni, MDC-T Spokesman, has slammed the United States for imposing sanctions in Zimbabwe and said these sanctions are harming ordinary people and not the intended targets.

MDC-T PRESS STATEMENT ON THE REMOVAL OF SANCTIONS-

Phugeni said the sanctions that have been imposed on Zimbabwe are not the right tool for achieving behavior change and the US should find other methods of forcing the Zimbabwe government to deal with corruption, human rights abuses and election reforms.

Phugeni said the United States can not speak about human rights, given recent events in the USA.

Regarding corruption, Phugeni said the MDC Alliance should take this with the courts, if they believe there is corruption in Zimbabwe.

When advised that Kuda Tagwirei, who has been implicated in corruption that involves billions, refused to appear before a portifolo committee investigating the issue, Phugeni said his party will take up the issue as they are now in Parliament.
