Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna has banned lawyer Beatrice Mthethwa from representing journalist Hopewell Chinono.
In a ruling handed down on Tuesday, Magistrate Ngoni said Mthethwa should stand down from representing Chin’ono.
Magistrate Nduna ordered that Prosecutor General institute contempt of court proceedings against Mthethwa.
Chin’ono has now selected Advocate Taona Nyamakura to be his lead lawyer.
Nduna said Mtetwa’s conduct was not commensurate with the status of her professionalism as it cast political expediencies towards the courts and hence were contemptuous.
“Her statements transgressed the sub judice rule and contempted the court. Practitioners with such blatant character have to be dismissed before the courts,” he said.
