Tourism deputy minister Fish Mahlalela has announced that foreign tourists may be allowed to travel to South Africa from the start of next year and domestic travel by October.

Tourism Lecturer and Tshwane University Of Technology Unathi Henama said that the tourism sector welcomes this move because the only way for the tourism sector to make money and stay relevant is for them to open up for tourists.

He said that South African tourist resorts are capable of following Covid 19 regulations set by World Health Organisation and therefor suggest that the government opens up international travel before the festive season.

Henama said that opening up international travel by next year would be too late because tourists usually visit during the festive season.
