Former Governor for the reserve bank of Zimbabwe Gideon Gono says he never benefited from RBZ loans instead he can account for everything that he owns.
Gideon Gono said that in all his 36 years of working formerly, 10 of which he was the central bank governor and 26 of which he was working in the private sector, he accumulated all his wealth and bought properties.
He said that during the land reform program in the early 2000s when he was offered farms he rejected the offer because he could not pay for it and was at the time paying for another farm he acquired through a loan from Barclays Bank.
The former governor said that he approached the late Robert Mugabe and Emmerson Mnangagwa and told them that he could not accept free land as the governor, when he was offered land in February 2008.
He said that there were over a 100 000 beneficiaries of the land mechanisation programme and himself was not part of the corrupt scheme.
