7 000 SA Car Rental Employees To Lose Their Jobs

About 7 000 employees in the South African car rental industry are set to lose their Jobs this month. This was reported by the Star Business Report On Tuesday.

Bidvest Car rental is planning to close all 100 branches across SA and sell the business.

Avis Car Rental (Barloworld) is exiting the logistics business and 2500 jobs will be lost.

Motus (Imperial group), is set to retrench 2000 employees.

Bidvest CEO, Steve Keys, told staff that 50% of its revenues were derived from air travel.

Domestic flights are still grounded in SA while tourism has been affected by the closure of SA borders.

Barloworld and Bidvest’s auto businesses contributed about 30% of their revenues.
