In a shocking development, the man who assaulted Josina Machel, Rofino Lucuco has been set free after a court in Maputo overturned his conviction this week.
Lucuco assaulted Josina, the daughter of the late Mozambican President, Samora Machel, on her birthday in 2015 and left her blind in one eye.
Lucuco was convicted in 2017 and was ordered to pay Josina an amount of R66 Million (200 Million Meticals). However, Lucuco appealed.
The Higher Appeals Court Overturned the conviction because there was no witness and therefore no proof of Josina was assaulted.
Josina is considering taking the matter to the Supreme Court in Maputo.
