Gambakwe Media Founder, Pardon Gambakwe has today announced the shutting down of two of the company’s four oblinw newspapers.

Speaking in a video statement, Gambakwe said the changes have been made mainly due to  the impact of the coronavirus and a strategic shift in strategy.

The high price of data in Zimbabwe has resulted in low traffic in Zimbabwe that has impacted traffic levels for harareupdates.com. This has seen a steep drop in traffic in the past few months.

In Mozambique, the breakout of rebel attacks has made us rethink our strategy and Gambakwe will no longer be moving to Mozambique. It is therefore no longer viable to run maputoupdates.com

Gambakwe said there are growing threats to the media industry in Zimbabwe, with more attempts to shut down independent media by political actors and also new attempts to aggressively influence the content of our political content.
