Spotlight Zimbabwe reports that Mnangagwa is angry that high ranking South African government officials, intelligence agencies and former Presidents Jacob Zuma and Thabo Mbeki have offered their support to Mugabe’s elaborate plan to make Kasukuwere the next Zimbabwe President.

Mugabe reportedly laid out the succession plan during his last days and provided funded to Grace Mugabe to execute the plan. Spotlight says Mugabe held meetings and telephone conversations with key figures soon after the July 2018 elections to gain support for his plan.

The South Africans have been providing Kasukuwere with security and intelligence as part of an agreement with Mugabe who did not want Kasukuwere to be exiled in far away lands.

Spotlight pointed to Grace Mugabe’s widely reported comments to farmers in Mazowe where she said “I will be back in three years” because Mnangagwa is running the country like a Tuckshop.

New Developments

This was confirmed this week after Kasukuwere announced that he will be coming back to Zimbabwe anytime now to begin preparations for the 2023 elections.

Conclusion

It is clear to careful observers that Zimbabwe is now is now in a transitional period.

Events of this week have clearly demonstrated two things:

  • Mnangagwa is losing control – information is easily leaking out from government circles regarding his dealings
  • G40 elements in government are still very powerful and hold key positions
  • Persistent rumours of a coup are undermining Mnangagwa’s government

According to Spotlight, Mnangagwa is not going to finish his term as a transitional leader will be in place for about 2 and half years.
