Three MDC Alliance activists Joanna Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Nestai Marova have been charged for contravention of country’s criminal laws, including lockdown regulations after they staged a demonstration in Warren Park.

The charges were laid out on Wednesday in a special court inside hospital, at a time when the ladies are receiving treatment following their abduction, disappearance & torture on 13 May.

Media Association of Zimbabwe programmes officer, Nigel Nyamutumbu said the three Ladies are facing charges of violating Section 37 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

The trio was charged with Section 37 of Criminal Code gathering with intent to promote public violence, breach of peace and Section 5(3) and (1) of COVID19 Regulations SI99 of 2020 on gatherings.

Nyamutumbu said the charges placed against the trio will get them arrested for almost three years or fined.

Nyamutumbu said the state did not oppose bail however they have put in place stringent conditions and asked for hefty amounts.
