Capetown based eNCA cameraman lungile Tom aged 45 has passed away after succumbing to covid-19.

Tom was hospitalized on Sunday after showing coronavirus symptoms and later died in hospital on Wednesday

South African National Editors’ Forum said the tragic death of eNCA ENG cameraman, Lungile Tom, points to the “very dangerous work that journalists do, working on the frontline” of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We call on all media companies to assist journalists with protective gear and for journalists to be extra careful and follow all safety precautions. We also call on media companies, where possible, to assist journalists with trauma counselling,” SANEF said in a statement.

Tom joined the eNCA in 2013 as an ENG camera operator, before that he had worked at CNBC Africa.
