Prominent Masvingo businessman and bus operator Tanda “Mhunga’’ Tavaruva has died at the age of 84.

Tavarura died at his home in the exclusive neighbourhood of Rhodhene in Masvingo after battling high blood pressure and diabetes since 2012.

Tanda was born in Nerupiri in Gutu, he is survived by his wife Pelagia and six children.

Mhunga buses rose to prominence during the 1980s, serving the Masvingo-Harare busy route.

Tavaruva was in line to assume the Gutu Chieftain as a descendant of the Madyira clan.

Tavarura founded and sponsored Masvingo United, which played in the Premier Soccer League between 2005 and 2011.
