South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the relaxation of the Lockdown to level 3 by the end of May.

The announcement comes 7 weeks after the lockdown began. Today also marked the day when 219 people in South Africa have died of Coronavirus, while 12 074 have been infected.

Ramaphosa says the lockdown has saved thousands of lives.

LIVES SAVED

Ramaphosa says experts estimate that at least 80 000 South Africans could have been infected by now without the lockdown and 8 more times would have died.

The current rate of infection is 181 people per million of the population in South Africa compared to 4600 per million people in the USA, Spain and UK.

QUARANTINE CAPACITY

South Africa has acquired an additional 25 000 beds for quarantine and has managed to screen 9 Million people and conducted 795 000 tests across the country.
