Cigarettes and Food are being smuggled through the R37 million Beitbidge border fence that was constructed to stop illegal cross-borders from entering South Africa.

Public Works Minister Patricia De Lille said the lockdown regulations have led to criminals stepping up illicit border activities despite deployment at the border.

The SA Auditor General will probe the contract for the R37 million border fence which has come under attack by smugglers.
