China is involved in a major project to expand electricity generation at Hwange by 600 MW.
Ii is not clear how the project is funded, however, Zimbabwe government officials have indicated that the project is a partnership between China and Zimbabwe government.
The project roadmap shows that the project will start contributing to the grid in April 2021 and will be complete by October 2022.
Hwange currently has a generation capacity of 600 MW and will generate 1200 MW on completion of this project at Hwange.
