ED Mnangagwa says the extension of the lockdown will be decided after the cabinet meets on the 20th of April to review the situation following the 21-day lockdown.
Addressing the media at his Precabe farm in Sherwood, Kwekwe, Mnangagwa said the extension is a question of a collective discussion after assessing the current situation.
He added that he is supposed to make an official statement if he decides on the lockdown extension.
This comes after a statement announcing the extension of the lockdown by 13 days took rounds on social media.
“ I have never made such a statement and that social media statement is absolute nonsense”, said Mnangagwa
He said peddlers of fake news pertaining to lockdown extension will face up to 20years jail term.
“We now have a law, which punishes those who produce fake news and I have ordered an investigation into those behind the fake statement and if found, we want that person to be an example by getting up to 20 years in prison. It’s bad to peddle falsehoods, especially about a President,” he said.
