Zimbabwe Eletricity Supply Authority has paid off the $33 million debt it owed to South Africa’s Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd said the energy minister Fortune Chasi.

Posting on his twitter, Chasi said ZESA has managed to pay all the money it owed Eskom and was now eligible to borrow more power from the company.

“Hard to believe but ESCOM has, in fact now been paid off. • Eskom was paid the last US$890,000.00 for imports during this week”.

Earlier this year, Chasi told South African media that the government is making the payments religiously after reducing the debt to US$4 million.

Chasi said the Zimbabwe Eletricity Supply Authority can now negotiate for additional supplies if available.

” Attention now turns to HCB ( Mozambique)”, he said.
