The Supreme court of appeals in Harare will today issue a judgemet in the long standing matter between Nelson Chamisa and the MDC.

This follows the appeal by Nelson Chamisa and the MDC against Justice Mushore’s judgement which went against the MDC in May 2019. The MDC and Nelson Chamisa appealed and the ruling issued by Justice Mushore which found that the appointment of Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri was unconstitutional. Dr Thokozani Khuphe appealed for calm among her members no matter which way the ruling goes. The Supreme Court today ruled that Nelson Chamisa is not the legitimate MDC leader in a judgment that settles the leadership wrangle between him and Dr Thokozani Khupe. The ruling follows an appeal by MDC-Alliance leaders Chamisa and Morgan Komichi challenging a High Court ruling in May last year which declared that Chamisa was illegitimately acting as the party leader. The ruling nullifies Nelson Chamisa’s candidacy in 2018 making ED Mnangagwa the outright winner, further cementing Khupe as the rightful Leader of MDC.

Khupe is set to hold an extraordinary congress within 3 months, failure to do so Morgan Komichi will have to call for the extra ordinary congress as the Chairman of the party.
